As the topic says, is it possible to replace the item and skill information (the war3map.w3u and such files) without deprotecting a map, and what type of steps would be needed to do so. I'm trying to translate a Korean map but the listfile from deprotecting genned is missing way too many files (they're sound clips for skills and model/skins for various spell effects as well as terrain things). I've tried it before but war3 sees the map file as corrupted so I'm thinking there's some sort of checksum or something somewhere in protected maps but I may be wrong.

It's very possible to do it without deprotection.

Deprotecting it just makes the job a tad easier.

Which brings me to the second part. I tried it once (in fact it was the first thing I tried since it seemed easier than deprotecting) but as I mentioned before war3 crashes when I select the map when choosing a map. What do I need to do to stop the crash from happening?

Did you delete (attributes) ?
And is it protected? Like, can MPQMaster open it, or do you need something else to do so? If MPQMaster can't open it, you should probably extract everything and rebuild it, because the protection is what's messing up the map when you modify it.

I just tried to delete the attributes file but it keeps crashing MPQmaster. Wouldn't extracting everything be along the same lines as deprotecting because if so I'm still missing about 20 or so files in the listfile and I can't figure out the file names for them :(

Yeah, it's protected then.
Deprotecting tends to mess it up, however. This would just be rebuilding it.
If you're missing filenames, that could make it a little problematic...

Hmm. What would be the best way to go about rebuilding a map file?
