What is the best anti-virus protection?

Post by matchai »

I am going to get an anti-virus program and I want to know which is the best one for Windows...

I don't care about the invalid or if it's free, I just want to know that it will protect me from viruses

Please say why you like it and why it's so good.

Here are the ones I know of:
(If I didn't add one let me know)

Kaspersky! It scans all downloads as they're being downloaded, and will halt it if it's suspicious and wait for action. After it gets to know which programs are safe and which aren't, which processes are good, etc., then it works very well in detecting threats, too. It's one of the best at detecting viruses. There's probably more reasons, but I can't think of them.

If you want a big poll, here's Lifehacker's Hive Five for AV programs.

Even if you don't download anything, your computer could be attacked, or a site could give you a trojan. Even if you're careful, you can still get viruses.

Of course, the best antivirus is to not connect... :P

I don't download porn, I still use an AV program. It's safer anyway. You aren't planning to get in an accident, or get sick, yet you have insurance. That's what a good AV program is. Besides, who downloads porn? It's unsafe. Streaming ftw! :P

Avira AntiVir
Shit

Kaspersky Anti-Virus
7/10
The same as the McAfee AV basically
But it doesn't spam you with warnings

BitDefender Antivirus

5/10
Bit defender is good.. But it clogs down your CPU
I have a 2GB ram on my lappy and i can't get under 60% CPU while running bitdefender

McAfee VirusScan

8/10
IF your an idiot when it comes to computers and you don't know much
McAfee will make SURE you don't even look at a file that will do something bad.
But it can be very annoying..

Panda Antivirus
Shit

F-PROT Antivirus

Shit

G Data AntiVirusKit (AVK)
Shit

AVG Anti-Malware
7/10
AVG is probably one of the best anti-virus's around.. But it does have its downs just like any AV

Eset Nod32

9/10
nod32 detects the most the fastest with the least cpu usage
True, but it isn't the Best protection.. But it yes the most computer friendly
So its best all rounder

Norton AntiVirus
-~/10
[blinking]FUCKING SHIT[/blinking]

DriveSentry
Never heard of it

I voted Kaspersky, since it's the only anti-virus that has really worked without a hassle for me (I like the content blocking too :)).

I wouldn't be able to use the net if i used Kaspersky
I installed it to test it for one of my forums because we did this voting shit and blah blah

Omg every site i went to
"This site is known for ______"
Lalalalalallla

You gotta be a dumbass to get virus's from 3/4 of the sites they block.
