[Fulfilled Help] Using MPQ Editor to lower filesize
So it's like this,
1)There's a map which exceeded 8mb after cheating.
2)I went ahead and deleted unnecessary models using MPQ editor after rebuilding the MPQ (listfile stuffs basically).
3)Tested the map in single player and the map works, though the NPCs that uses the models are now invisible(and unselectable, but no worries, I selectedly deleted the useless stuffs)
The problem starts here,
I'm sure the stuffs I deleted should lower it to below 8mb, but the actual physical file size(right click>properties) doesn't change. Even Wc3 detects it(in LAN) as exceeding 8mb.
Tried to rebuild it with wc3mapoptimizer, lowers the filesize since it rebuilds the MPQ, but the map ends up damaged(doesn't show up in wc3).
Anyone with any ideas?
I'm sure I've missed something here....maybe a hex editor would help, but I have no idea with regards to hex editor.
Edit1: Doing this cause prefering not to use the 8mb bypass thing.

you can't delete models when it's being called in the game. Can you open the map in world editor?

Re: [Help] Using MPQ Editor to lower filesize
Sure, here.
Original map
Edited map attached below.
If you calculate the total size of the things inside, it should be lower than 8mb.(In MPQ Editor. Or just compare the stuffs between the original link and the edited, deleted stuffs, mostly with (war3import/) extensions, deleted stuffs are player models for classes I'm not planning to use and their portraits, since I only need a save file.)
But if you look at the filesize, its more than 8mb.
Edit 2: The map still works in wc3, no errors.

Re: [Help] Using MPQ Editor to lower filesize
have you tried using wc3optimizer 5.0, or compact archive in MPQ Editor?

Yeah, tried wc3optimizer, but huh, didn't know u had to compact archive after doing anything with it.
Still not working though, though the filesize did decrease after compacting, FT can't detect the map ingame.

Re: [Help] Using MPQ Editor to lower filesize
you can try deleting its sound. or rebuilding it without some of the unused models/skins.
It's made close to 8mb limit as a form of anticheat I guess.
If none of that work to reduce the map size, you need to deal with over 8mb.

Re: [Help] Using MPQ Editor to lower filesize
MPQEditor will only help in size if you compact flush archive.
To reduce size you better use an optimizer like Vexorian's Optimizer. It can also remove some files that are not needed for the game to run the map.

Tried a lot of things, but I give up now. Downloaded that 8mb limit thing.
Yeah tried em both, ended up with a corrupted map that wc3 won't detect.haxorico wrote:MPQEditor will only help in size if you compact flush archive.

Anyway, guess I'll consider the thread closed since it might be impossible.

It's not impossible, it's just that you will ruin the game after optimizing their skin/ deleting their model.
In that case I prefer deleting the .mp3 file if it's big, because it doesn't affect gameplay.
this is one of the safe to use 8mb bypass, it is open source on github and it works for local player network hosting.
don't seem to play them multiplayer though.
