a new laptop

Hey guys, my relative's buying me a laptop for use at school and I have no clues what I should get.
The requirement from the school is:

at least an 2.2GHZ 64 bit processor, 250gb hard disk x1, 4gb ram, win7 ,withdvd rom drive ..

And I hope the laptop to play League of Legends smoothly, I think it needs a 2gb graphic drive?
What do you recommend? Etc models, capacity of the drivers, ram.

It all depends on how much you want to spend. The specs you are showing are pretty old. You can easily get a laptop with 1Tb HDD. The cheap ones even start with 6GB ram.

I've been happy with the Acer Aspire series. If you are looking for an Intel processor, go for the Intel core i5 at the very least. Although the i5 processor might be too expensive for your budget.

It's going to more of a challenge to find windows 7. If you have a copy already, just format the new Laptop HDD and install it new.

You need to let us know how much money you would like to spend, but we don't know hoe the prices in your country compare to ours in Canada.

The amount of memory in a video card does not matter nearly as much as you think. A 2GB mobility card could have 1/5th the performance of a 1GB discrete card.

If I were on a tight budget, I'd probably get an AMD APU 4-core laptop. "If you are looking for an Intel processor, go for the Intel core i5 at the very least." Yeah, no, lol. i5 is great, but you can definitely get along quite easily with less, especially if the games you're going to be playing are League of Legends and similarly graphically unintensive games.

a) As a pirate myself. You can save money on the windows. You can install win7 via disc or USB so it shouldnt be a problem. There are many guides for that and I can provide help if needed.
b) I dont know what are the graphics for LoL, but would you compromise on lowering the detail of the game so it woould run smooth? And what is the resolution you "must" play on. Does it have to be a PC that supports 1080p? or lower is also okay?
c) Will it have any future use? So far it sounds like it can be a pretty simple and cheap laptop.

My wifey has an Intel core i3, and it's slow as molasses. I'm not much of a gamer, but I wouldn't think this has enough juice to run one.

an i3 can be something from 5 years ago. there different processors. We are now at the 4th generation of the core(i) processor.
Also, CPU aint the only thing that matters regarding FPS... Still the info is needed. If you feel like you must play the game at 1080p with the options maxed out. It will matter for the PC

What Haxorico said. There are 4 different generations of Core i# processors...you may thank Intel for that. I'm still on an old Phenom X4 and a 5770 that are able to run most new games on high, medium at worse. League of Legends is a fairly easy game to run, so I wouldn't worry overtly. As long as it was released within the last two years or so, almost any dual core (though a quad core would be better) of ~>=3GHz should be ample.

Video cards, particularly "mobile" chips, are a little trickier...their model names tend to ape decent non-mobile chips but have 1/5th the real performance, sometimes involve outright lies, or have features that would make you think they're decent (2GB of VRAM for a chip that will probably only be able to use 512MB at best, for example), but actually do nothing...hence why I'd probably go with an APU, myself - it's the most money efficient for budget builds, as per usual for AMD. The cheapest CPU with Iris from Intel - the only competent integrated GPU from them - is at least $250 States-side...I'd probably just get something with a A10-7800 and call it a day. Fairly low wattage (battery life!), great performance for what it is, and at a pretty decent invalid.

On the other hand, if you've got a lot of money to burn, then I'd like to see your options before really recommending anything.

I didn't state my budget as I am back in China at the moment. The currency is very different from yours and I don't have any idea how much they do sell at.
@hax I can be a pirate as well but unfortunately singapore is a strict country, I have to avoid getting into the kaws by all means. So I still have to don't click me the windows7 unfortunately because it's the school's requirement.
It has to support 1080p.
3 years of study and I would still use it after that.
@vegas the specs are the minimum the school asked for..
As for my budget is 12000¥, I have relative who can don't click me at more affordable invalid at wholesaler. (I think)

Since win7 is required. Did they state which version? I think home premium should be fine and i think its around 100$
Sole question remain for me before i start looking through laptops. Will you be fine in lowering the detail of the game to gain FPS or do you intend to max it out? I myself think that steady 60FPS is needed at minimum (Depends on your monitor capability)

i3 vs i5 is mostly about accelerated encryption and virtualisation, which for most users don't matter. There also is also turbo boost, which for gaming shouldn't be too relevant, given that most laptops heat up and throttle anyway.
