I doubt you can rebuild the GUI due to the reason... Most of it wasn't made using GUI.

Re: [Deprotection]DotA maps
You can fully deprotect DotA and not just dota. Every map can be deprotected up to 95% but that would take more than xdep. You need to recover triggers, placements, objects do the right edits into the script and MPQ it self to make it playable - not just openable. Im not gonna go into details ive written such guides many times. Fully deprotection-restoration can take up to two months. ive only done it once.

Re: [Deprotection]DotA maps
I dont have the time to work on such a long project. Besides by the time im finished the map will be updated - just like those guys here ->
http://opendota.xgm.ru/
They managed to do this long term process only twice. Why would you wanna play a deprotected map? You have to save it and then play it.

Just wanna make fun with my friends.. adding my edited heroes and skills... but i guess ur ryt.. the updates are fast so deprotecting it in such a long way could be wasted... hmm... if someone make a program that would do all the steps needed for a user... it could be quicker right?? just a thought though... and thanks for the link... i could learn some new things there...

Re: [Deprotection]DotA maps
IIRC you don't to deprotect a map inorder to edit heroes etc.. I never got into it but you can edit the files inside the mpqmaster (not only the war3map.j) I think with microsoft excel 0_o

Re: [Deprotection]DotA maps
Thats only if they used widgetizer on them. If they didnt you have to extract the w3u file etc to a new map, edit them there, re-import.
