Is Vexorian worth it?

Post by storyyeller »

I've been widgetizing my maps, and then using Vexorian's Map Optimizer on it. But I noticed that Vex was only reducing the map size by 0.26%
So I was wondering, is it actually worth it, if you are already widgetizing your maps? Does it make it any harder to deprotect?

Widgetizing already makes them relatively annoying to deprotect, but a simple dewidgetizer (just takes a long time to process) and x-dep will have it done easily. Widgetizer does NOTHING to the actual map script. And, are you protecting the map from hacking, deprotection or both? If hacking, vex optimizer is a must.

Ok, I think I'll keep using it anyway. It can't hurt

HeavyLocker is good at optimizing it, so it's a smaller map, and it has some good protection options.
Also, I have never tried it on a map, but you could use ExtProtect.

One of the main problems is that vex is too lazy to fix the compression issue with .wav files, so it increases them.. alot.

Other than that.. There's not much you can do to a map to decrease size..

Who in their right mind would use a .wav? You can use .mp3, and it gets better compression.

On a somewhat related note: Does anyone know if WC3 can use Ogg Vorbis files? I don't need to know, but I'm curious if we could encode files into that to save space. (Or are ogg files bigger, and I'm thinking of some other format?)

On an ironic note, I've been looking at various maps, and I'm beginning to think that for GUI triggers, Vex actually makes the code easier to understand!

The reason is that it cuts out a lot of the junk and useless code that WE automatically inserts

I think wc3 only uses wav and mp3, not sure though.

Reason people use wav? They're too lazy to google a converter and convert it to mp3.

Lol, I can't even hardly read GUI anymore, I'm purely vJass nowadays.

Yeah, it does. GUI is so inefficient, and it's hard to understand what it's doing because it will make multiple triggers to do one simple thing. If it's optimized to jass, it may be obfuscated and be harder to read, but the coding itself is simpler.
