I have no idea, but does it matter?
Since the length of SHA1 Strings is shorter than the data you hash with them in most cases, those attacks are possible.
Even if you can't break them at the moment you are able by brute forcing with an expected amount of 50% of the SHA1 String lengths combinations.
I don't think that will be a problem in the future. Hashes have that system based weakness even if the algorithms are strong. - I don't like hashes -.-

Even a 64 bit hash is way bigger then a typical 8 character password (52.7 bits)
Plus, 2^63 operations is way more then it is feasible for anyone to do short of a large company or the government. 2^127 is out of the question, period

i already run collider.exe and already type like this

Code: Select all

C:\Collider\collider.exe "A.w3x"
example i want to collided Dota allstars v6.56.w3x
and i type like this
c:\collider\collider.exe Dota Allstars v6.56.w3x

but nothing happen ...
there is a result folder but empty... i already try this 5 times..
anyone can help me about this... is there any wrong in my computer or... wrong with this collider :(
nitez: Do you have DotA Allstars v6.56.w3x in C:\Collider\, along with collider.exe and the other things that came with it? Also, try putting quotes around the map's name when you do that.
Another way of running arguments is to create a shortcut to collider.exe, right-click on it and choose Properties, and in the Target box, add a space at the end, and then add "DotA Allstars v6.56.w3x". Run the shortcut, and it should work.

LOL 8 characters... cute :D
Data > hash length is collideable, and small amounts of data are crackable - rainbowtables, cloud cracking and so on.
I have ~60gb compressed rainbowtables which crack a windows passwords up to 14 characters in 10 minutes.
Don't rely on hashes, it's simple! :P I recently used them to break my old schools security system for a friend who's still there... ;)

Can you crack 14 character passwords in 10 minutes with the hash function that Island Defense uses? It's a pretty weak hash, so if you can't, then you probably can't crack anything worthwhile

I have no clue, and I definitively don't feel like trying. - I never even played that map ;)
But the Vampirism Fire RSA for example has been broken.
And 10 minutes would be really unrealistic anyway, if it's a new hash you'd have to create rainbowtables first.
Best way would be probably to use a GPU to attack it which should be fine till 10 characters in a few days.
I think you don't know how rainbowtables work, they're just a big bunch of precalculated hashes, and to break
one you just look it up. So you have to try them all first and then you're good to go for any further cracking.
Those rainbowtables I spoke of are the combined computing power of thousands of pcs - collected over months.

So there is no way to use Windows Lanman or md5 rainbowtables to break anything else than what they're made for.

The mac skin is epic fail!
