Hey, have you ever read Cory Doctorow's Eastern Standard Tribe? It's a neat book, and I just thought of it because I was thinking, "What if we just had one global time zone? 6am would be 6am everywhere at the same time. Sunny in some places, dark in others, but you wouldn't have to figure out time zones and differences and GMT and all that nonsense..."

Nope.
The reason why that isn't used is because then nobody would USE clocks, or whatever kept time, because it would have no actual meaning except the universal time. Because it doesn't reflect on the time of the day, people would always refer to it as, "Afternoon", "Morning", and "Midday/Noon".
By making all places one time, you destroy the actual reason for keeping time.
