Compressing a map

Post by Brogath »

i started translating this korean map that i play recently.

i simply edit the files in the wc3editor, export them and replace them using MPQmaster. (i can't save the map becasue of some issue with the player starts)

but the problem is that the files seemed to got bigger while i am fairly sure i reduced the amount of information and text.

the fact can't be changed that te file is now to big to test, how do i reduce the size without removing any custom units?

note: i used bzip to reduce each file's size, it didn't worked because niether WC3 or MPQmaster understand the .bz2 file. perhaps i did something wrong...i never used a compressor before, juts a archiver such as winrar...

You don't compress files using winrar.

Check out the tools section, we have a lot of compression/protection tools.

i used the optimizer before which failed bigtime.

however, this time it seemed to work, i guess the new version is better in some way XD

the mdx squisher was useless though, almost every mdx was allready greatly compressed.

thanks for the help.

If you're using MPQMaster, make sure you do the "Compact(Flush)", it isn't 100% successful, but it's better than nothing.

Either that, or use vexorian optimizer.

yes the compression workes fine, thank you all for that.

now i just need one more thing (i hope):
how do i change the in-game name for my newly/changed map outside the WC3 editor?

i read the "Guide - Format/Explanation of W3M and W3X Files" thread that says i need the .w3i file. i can't extract it and simply edit is with notepad like i did with the .wts file.

any tips on changing this?

Use a HEX editor on the w3x (thats the map) and the w3i file.
