Enjoy it while it lasts, cache modification is going away!

As a result of the pending release of patch 1.23b, cache modification through collision will no longer be possible. Instead of Game Caches, Blizzard will be implementing a new and faster type just like it, hashtables. They will also be including new functions that, for example, do the same as H2I, as the "return" bug will be fixed to patch the arbitrary code execution exploit.

What does this mean? DotA will most likely be rereleased soon after (or when) the patch is released, no longer using Game Caches, and therefore, unless a new exploit is found, game cache modification is at an end (for normal Battle.Net and most PvPGN players).

I'm gonna guess not, it'll just make it a lot more apparent to people who know what they're doing.

I would hope so. But, maybe the new Blizzard H2I equivalent will also allow it. Who knows. Someone update to 1.23b and test?

Tested 1.23b, couldn't play DotA, Warlock and some other maps. It pops out "game not found" (original maps).

Thank-you Hillo. And, indeed, this is potentially a way to force everyone to update to 1.23b. Why? Latest DotAs won't work with 1.23 or lower, and so if they don't update, they cannot update DotA either. They will be stuck with 6.60b forever. So yeah, definitely end of collision.

I'm sick of all the collisions crap. This is actually a good idea on their part; gets rid of an exploit and forces everyone to update to be able to play the latest version of their favorite map. Unless it occurs to them to ask us to just take the latest DotA and modify it so it works on the older versions...
