Computer is pwnt

My good computer has decided to stop working. I left it for an hour or so to do some yard work, came back to it not working.

Symptoms are that the only things that seem to work are the CPU fan, the disk tray and the light that lets me know the computer is on.

Any thoughts on what might be causing it, or how to fix it?

Yeah, I've restarted many times and the problem persists. Fan goes whirrrr, hard drive goes click-click a bit, but little else happens. All I can think is that I got haxed or something inside the computer disconnected somehow. I'll probably open it uplater today to check, so I'll report back after that.

lol, it's good now. I opened it up, turned it on its side... Turned it on, and it works.

Download this CD and burn it:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

If it's not a hardware problem you can boot up Ubuntu from that CD without changing anything on your drive. That allows you to scan your files for viruses and backup your files to a safe location. If it doesn't boot it's most likely a hardware problem!

I actually tried those, along with the Windows recovery CDs. And they didn't work.

It was a hardware issue; only a few things were working, monitor not included. Ubuntu wouldn't have helped any.

You could boot Ubuntu and copy your files to a safe place without monitor, that's no big deal ;)
So if it still booted with a broken graphics card it could have helped!

sounds like a harddrive problem ?
Because the computer hardware booted up. (Cpu + Fan)
