solid state disks

Post by Dekar »

I've just received my ocz solid state disk and I have to say it is insane!
The overall boot time hasn't changed since my bios takes about 15s to detect it, but the feeling once it's booted is really great.
When I doubleclick open office it shows me the loading picture with full loading bar, one second later the window comes up.
It's definitively the best tuning you can do if you want an everyday performance boost. Gimp takes only 2-3s :D
And my laptop really isn't that fast, 12" core2 1,8ghz + 2gb ram. I've got my ssd from ebay - 32gb for 50€.
I haven't done any sector size tuning so far, will try that later. (I've read 128kbyte shall be the best for SSDs)

Would a bios update help with delay? (If there is an update). My box used to boot up fast, but since I got my 1tb drive in there the bios likes to sit and look for it for about 30 seconds.

Dont have an ssd yet. will wait for the prices to drop.
