Hi again guys! Well one of my goals when I first joined here was to give a present to my friends who have helped me through a tough time in my life. They have a love of DotA, and they've given that to me. In return, I want to edit their favourite heroes and rename them to the names or nicknames of my mates. If this is too much trouble, I'd simply like for someone to show me, or point me in the direction where I can learn this myself.
Map Name: DotA Allstars v6.55b
Map Description: DotA Allstars is a map where the two teams (Sentinel and Scourge) battle against each other, each with their own objectives. The Sentinel fight to destroy the other team's Frozen Throne, but protect their own World Tree, and the Scourge vice versa.

Request: I would like the following character's names changed please.
Hero | Name -> Request change to
Bloodseeker | Strygwyr -> Jetto
Centaur Warchief | Bradwarden -> Rhys
Forgot the name | Lina Inverse -> Meady
Spiritbreaker | Barathrum -> Tank-Wombat
Sacred Warrior | Huskar -> Guerrilla
Sand King | Crixalis -> PuNkstR-
Juggernaut | Yurnero -> Benoski
Goblin Techies | Squee and Spleen -> Donkey
Lightning Revenant | Razor -> Hachii
Storm Spirit | Raijin Thunderkeg -> Shane
Stone Giant | Tiny -> Ryan
Necrolyte | Rotund'jere -> Jelly
Stealth Assassin | Rikimaru -> Ryu
If this is a difficult task, or isn't considered a request, could anyone please point me in the right direction? I'd really like to edit these heroes' names. It would make a great present to my friends.
So, this ends my request Thanks in advance to anyone who can fulfill this!

Um...
...Yeah... Good luck getting this one done.
1) Editing DotA is completely useless, no one will DL it.
2) Loooooooooooooooool. No one here will even think about doing this.
3) You'd have to deprotect it, restore it, and then edit it. GL there.
If you wish to do this yourself (I really suggest telling them you can't do it)
Try one of these two links, maybe one will help you.
Restoring Maps
Deprotecting Maps
Trashing this unless someone says they're crazy enough to attempt it. Good luck to the requester.

Well the map wasn't intended to be played online. We would of have LAN'd this one. But if it's as hard as you say it is, I guess I'll attempt it myself.
Thanks away..
Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated.

can be done in like a whole hour, either through .slks or .w3u, not sure. (but im on my laptop which mpqmaster doesnt work on...)
could be done for lan easily, but hopefully you have a lot playing...
I recommend more changes rather then just names of heros though.

It depends on what you're trying to edit. If the custom object files for it exist in the root of the map, then that's easy, just import them into a blank map in the WE, edit away, export, and reinsert, overwriting the original. If they aren't there, you will probably need to extract the contents of the /Units folder in the map, and then use Silk Object Console on them, so you can edit the stuff. Import the resulting files into a blank map in the WE, and edit away! Then, once you have finished editing the custom object info, export it, and then use the Widgetizer on it, and import the resulting files back into the /Units folder, overwriting the original files.
I think. Not totally sure, as I haven't done a lot with this. You might be able to just add the custom object files, I dunno... Try it both ways? I might be completely wrong about how to do this, but I think this would be how.

Yeah, at LAN, we always have a full game going on. We're all DotA addicts, even got shirts with our chars on the back.Xantan wrote:can be done in like a whole hour, either through .slks or .w3u, not sure. (but im on my laptop which mpqmaster doesnt work on...)

More changes? I don't know what else to change. I didn't want to ask too much, that's all. =o
Umm.. I'm a little too newb to understand, sorry. But thanks for the info! I'll google some terms or something. Perhaps you could explain it in newb terms? Lol jk. It makes sense, I just don't know most of those programs and a few definitions behind some of it. eg. Custom Object Files existing in the roots of the maps?Senethior459 wrote:It depends on what you're trying to edit. open the unit data .slk files in microsoft excel/other box type value editors -- then find the name of the hero's and change it.
after doing this, save, and import/replace in mpqmaster, then host the map.
(note 6.56 is out now)

Ah, thanks alot! That makes so much sense now.
By the way, could you recommend a free Box Type Value Editor? It's just that I don't have MS Office. Googled some, but I don't know if any of them are the one's I'm looking for.

try a hex editor or notepad on the slks, if neither work, I recommend trying a random free one.

You don't have MS Office? I suggest getting Open Office then. It's free, it has all the features of Office, and it's just awesome in every way. http://www.openoffice.org/
