Some kind of server glitch

Post by TechGeek001 »

An older version of my map had something that was referenced as a "server split glitch".
What are they, what causes them, and most importantly, how do I fix them?

A server split glitch is when the connection of the map is divided. So lets say you are host and you are playing and suddenly 4 people all drop at once without warning. They are now in their own game if someone can carry on the game (they have a host). This is what a server split glitch looks like.

To fix it? Umm there are several reasons why a server can be split, and it is hard to pin point, so I would work from a stable map and test from there. Most likely you have a piece of unstable code that is setting off the glitch. The worst case scenario would be to start from scrap. Pray that is not the option. If you have a stable map to work off of, I'm sure with a little testing you will find the glitch.

Best of luck.

Wasn't there a cheatpack that used to cause server splits?

It's a good possibility.

I think when I used to work with Xantan there was a server glitch, but he fixed it quite fast (within 10 mins). I couldn't tell you what he did though. I just installed his cheat packs back in the day and did some swapping on some of his sounds and pics. I was the one that designed the mario pic and the sound for it lol.

But ya, it could be that a cheat pack was inserted into his map and may have messed up some triggers and led to some memory leaks. That will usually cause a map to server split or crash. I would check that out first for sure and see if that is the case.

Eh, well, it's only happened once, so I'm not terrible concerned yet. However, once I start mass-hosting it I'd like to try to figure out how to fix it.
I...think I still have that replay....hmmm...
