A Few Questions/Concerns about Deprotecting and Errors

Post by Shank3d »

Hello everybody. this is going to be my first post i put into this community, So hopefully i can get some good responses and maybe somebody else can learn from my errors.

1. It seems whenever i deprotect then reprotect a map (The Black Road In this case) the map gets to the point where it crashes wc3. How is this fixable?( i use xdep then recovery then master). I was thinking maybe i did something wrong in the process of putting the map back together.(Note: i did not add any triggers or change any jass)

2. Can somebody explain the exact uses of these programs for me. (I can understand basic usage, but i like to have deeper understandings) I know xdep deprotects into a new map file (thats obvious) What i don't understand is. if xdep unprotects what is the point of mpq recovery and master.

3. When i use xdep i notice that it takes away the temp folder needed when you recompile the finished map. How would i fix this?

Sorry if any of these questions were already answered, but after fishing around through a few guides i'm kind of stonewalled. If it also helps at all i used Xantan's Guide to deprotecting. (Very well made guide i must add)

hopefully after this is all fixed i can be a decent contributing member of the community.

Thanks in advance,
Shank3d

1.Xdep pretty much corrupts the map, as far as I know there isn't a way to fix this...

2.MPQMaster - For extracting/adding files from a warcraft map (and also other things)
For instance extracting the j script so you could add a cheatpack then reinserting it.
MPQReover - for getting a listfile of a map. Jasscraft - Editing J scrips.

3.Open the Xdep.ini and change these to 0
clean_temp_onstart = 0
clean_temp_onsuccess = 0
clean_temp_onerror = 0

If you want to add a cheatpack, you just need MPQMaster and Jasscraft...
You can check out my guide on how to do that...

So really unprotecting is just for name changes/Integral stuff, which means i can add my own jass / triggers without any problems? Thanks alot for the help. I guess we can end this topic now.

You can edit the name through this same process too, just need to edit the wts
and then use a hex editor to also change the name...
