How to Edit .j of a map

i try to edit .j of a map i use mpq editor opening it with notepad is required.. when i open it. edit it. save it. then close when i open back to the file everythings back to where it was? help anyone?

you have to extract the war3map.j then reinsert it into the map. or you can use winmpq to edit the war3map.j without extracting

sorry the file isnt war3map.j its file000042.xxx something like that.. and i open it using notepad via mpq editor.. somehow its uneditable.. if i do change something it goes back to where it was..and i also i tried deleting the file,yes it was deleted i copied what it had pasted it in notepad and past it in the map it says something like

He knows what it is, he's just using a completley blank listfile.

iv deprotected it myself and reprotected it by myself too, slow answers you guys dont know what im talking about.
