Why Deprotect a map? What does it actually do?
If all your doing is just going to insert CP+SP why does one deprotect a map? Can somebody give me more info on what deprotecting actually does or require? I know u have to deprotect to open in WE else it crash right? Also deprotecting a map will let you see one triggers, objects, etc and function to be able to copy/use it onto another map correct? Another person, told me that you need to deprotect a map first to be able to save the game. I'm so lost.. Please give insight thanks.

Hello there. To clarify some issues.
1. You dont have to deprotect a map to cheat it nor view its triggers/etc...
2. Deprotection allows you to open the map world editor / jassnewgen (a modifired version of WE (world editor)) Sometimes is not succesful and there are times where its impossible.
3. Advanced cheaters and editors do edit the map externally. They open the mpq of the map (w3x if you preffer) and edit it with different sort of tools. This gives full control that normal WE does not allow.
4. Deprotected map are a bit crappy. For instance, the triggers come in a single jass trigger and the objects are most of the time not viewable. ( the objects, however, can be viewed with special tools )
5. Deprotection can be achieved either by restoring the MPQ of the file (yes its part of the deprotection) or by using a special tools called X-Dep http://files.wc3edit.net/download/index ... it.net.rar
PS: Im a bit tipsy while im writting these but for more info or if i forgot something dont hesitate to ask, cheers.
Edit: Here is deprotection guide.

Re: Why Deprotect a map? What does it actually do?
I have read all the process and many tuts on deprotecting. I still confused why does one deprotect a map if its a hassle and will lose some stuff unless rebuild mpq. My only main reason to deprotect a map is to open it in WE so I can find the coordinates of secret heroes in many diff types of rpg. About this jassnewgen is it easy to use and it is a much better than the normal WE? Like it will open those Korean RPG that WE can't? Many thanks for fast reply. Still trying to learn and encounter some errors which I haven't got a clue on hoe to resolve it yet.
Is there a cheat command in the CP to find the coordinates of your hero or where your standing in the game? Or any way to bring up the coordinates?

Re: Why Deprotect a map? What does it actually do?
Mainly i use WE to avoid some scipt errors. Like the latest patch cause errors in most maps. This helped solve my issues. Or id use WE to edit the terrain or get a better look at the custom objects/units/etc..
Rebuilding an MPQ even though its part of deprotection it doesnt actually allow you to open the map. For instance most users that deprotect a map think that its corrupted. Thats not true, see if you deprotect a map and then try to play 95% of the time the map works just like before.
Yes Jassnewgen helps solve problem that most Korean maps have. Just remember that if you want to edit the map do it externally, just use WE/ JassNewGen to get an insight of the map.
Sidenote: If you want to edit the map's terrain, objects, doodads and all peripherals then try using the Enchancer that is provided with World editor Unlimited. its got an option of import/export for most parts of the map. Here is a link for it.

Re: Why Deprotect a map? What does it actually do?
Oh, I see... I don't want to edit anything I just want to find the exact coordinates where the secret heroes are on the map in WE then apply it to the game as in searching near that exact spot that will trigger the secret hero if got that item for it.
I didn't want to make another topic on rebuilding the mpq, so is it okay if I just say it here too? I don't know why the files are all missing in folders/directory of MDX, Scripts, Textures, Units, and war3mapImported when I right click on MpqMaster->Add Directory and choose the folder of the newly extracted files. Do you know what is wrong or what i'm doing wrong? I don't understand why those folders doesn't have any files added to them with MPQMaster even tho in the folders itself have files in it from my Desktop.

When i suppose the answer is that you have to restore the map. Take a look at this guide http://forum.wc3edit.net/deprotection-c ... t1606.html

Yeah images have been deleted from the hosted site. Basically it shows units being placed in the map not that big a deal.
