What programs compress files ALOT!

i was wondering what is a program that can compress a file to a fragment of what it is before?

i saw somethings and found that compressed files (windows) and winrar dont do so well. anyone have suggestions?

i need to compress my system backup (the complete thing) which is 40> but less than 50...
somewhere in that range
