Synchronised Sounds?

Post by Ozzapoo »

Ok, so I was in my school library today (where there are around 20 or so computers), and suddenly all of the computers started to play dos-music (rapid succession of system beeps), which included Mario. They restarted all of the computers and it started playing from the beginning even at the Windows login screen. Of course, by now it was all out of sync and sounded messy.

Any idea how they did it?

Probably system scheduling, and having it at a startup task.

I recall something like this from my computer science class last year. We could access other computer's scheduled task list, and add stuff such that it would automatically run IE with a Google search for porn every few minutes.

Whoever did this probably set every computer to play that music at the same time (assuming the computer clocks were properly synchronized) and put the file also in the startup folder of the computers.

The folder can be found in C:\Windows\system32\Tasks or something similar.

FatherSpace: What happened, Bart?
Bartimaeus: She walked out of the house saying that she was going over to some friends, and it's been like two hours, and my mom is trying to get a hold of her, which she's been unable to.
Bartimaeus: I can also hear three car alarms going off.
GeorgeMots: how old is she?
Bartimaeus: I haven't a clue. Probably 17.

UndeadxAssassin: If I thought of a random one...
UndeadxAssassin: Like....
UndeadxAssassin: I'll get back to you on that

AT libraries, the computers are all linked to the librarians. They probably have a program which allows them to do this.

No. The librarians didn't do it. In Australia we have something called "muck-up" day. All the people in their last year of school do random pranks and stuff. This is one of them. I need to know how the did it

The scheduling also activates during logon?

Even at the Windows login screen? It's possible that they renamed the file to the login noise, and replaced the original with their modification.
