ok, well I edited a protected map by extracting the war3map.w3a and war3map.w3u files, changing them, and re-importing and it all works fine. but now I would like to know how to edit the map description to let people know in advance about some of the changes (they will find out anyway since some of them are quiet visible). How do I add a change log to the loading screen to let people know what the changes are before or as soon as the game begins. The map.j looks really strange so I don't know how to edit it.
is there a file I can change to add my change log without fully deprotecting the map?

P.S. the map.j actually looks fairly normal here, but in notepad it has a bunch of little rectangles between words I don't understand. not sure how to work with the protected version of it

war3map.j file is for the triggers. and for placing stuff (units cameras regions w/e)

the description file is in war3map.wts.

its in separated parts. but i think u can manage.

Not necessarily.

Search for function config. Second line of the function should be "call SetMapDescription("something")"

If it says TRIGSTR_xxxx, extract war3map.wts and find the number, change the value there.

Otherwise, just change the string in war3map.j

Afterward, import the modified file back into the map and flush it.

thanks for the assist. it was under string 33 in the wts, fairly easy change. only downside is space constraints or size it shows.

When you replace the file using MPQMaster, just go to "Operations -> Compact(Flush)"

Normally it'll make the map size smaller.

If the option is grayed out, close MPQ, then open it up (and the map) again. should work then.
