I'm trying to deprotect DotA 6.45. What I've done is use xdep to deprotect it using a big merged listfile I put in there. The listfile was made from mpqrecover + a bunch of basic wc3 listfiles I've found + the one from open dota.

I also used Silk Object Recovery from that site to recover the objects.

After doing this everything seems to be working alright, but when I save the map it crashes! I don't get any error messages or anything from the editor, just a typical program crash error report from windows.

I'm guessing it might have to do with these files. I guess these are unknown files from an incomplete listfile? If so, is this why it's crashing, and how would I get a complete listfile after doing all that already?

Beginners shouldn't try to work with maps like DotA. Most maps are protected, but DotA does it pretty well. It tends to keeps the noobs out (no offence to you or anyone else). Anyway, DotA has more than one type of protection past obfuscation as well. You don't need to deprotect unless you plan to restore it. Good luck with that, 98% of people don't know how to do it. I'm proud to be one of the few who can. Maybe once you get some more practice you will figure out how things correspond with each other and then you can do what you please with the map. If you plan tor restore the map I can help you out, but I am not going to spoon feed you. Remember though, you can do anything you set your mind to.

Okay, cool that way I won't have to mess with listfiles anymore.

Is it something like you described in
this thread
with a syntax error?
Or maybe it was part of the .wtg file like omgx described?
Or is it something far more complicated?

Just looking for some specifics. Thanks!

And GhettoChild, what do you mean by restore? I've already used silk object recovery and restored all the objects automatically, if that's what you mean. It opens fine and everything, just has this saving error. Anyway, thanks for the offer of help! (I am pretty determined to do this.)

I mean stuff like placing the units back on to the map in the editor and having them playable in the map, regions and camera's recovered etc...

How do I externally add cheats to a map and why does some of the map GUI not load on the version I deprotected? Thanks.

I use xdep to deprotect my maps, and then i go in and mess with soem things. nothing important just adding a few triggers and stuff mostly, but everytime i try to save any of the maps i have tried this with my editor shuts down, with one of the "do you wish to send msn an error report about this" kinds of things... does anyone know why this always happens? it makes me angry cuz rigging stuff doesn't work for me cuz of this...
