It worked perfectly. Thank you very much.
I think my problem is that the unedited j file had almost all of the whitespace taken out. Since it didn't look like it had any newlines in it, I assumed they weren't necessary at all.
Do you know how to tell when it is necessary to add spaces or newlines? Is that something Jasscraft can figure out automatically?

Notepad will show them without spaces between the lines, but they should be/are there. There's actually a symbol (not shown, obviously) there that separates the lines; if you open it in JassCraft, it reads them and places it all on separate lines.

If you don't feel like installing jasscraft, wordpad works fine too.

You don't need to install JassCraft - I put it in a folder and registered the .j extension to it, so I can just double-click the war3map.j and have it open in JassCraft.
