Re: ubuntu + XP
Honestly, I'm not sure what's going on there. sda6 is mounted as your root partition, sda1 has the boot flag, yet it's not mounted as / or as a separate /boot partition? What‽
Can you mount /dev/sda1 and give me a basic overview of what's in it? Like, is it another Ubuntu install, or is something funny going on here?
(If this were my computer, I would just wipe it and do a full reinstall, to simplify everything, but I dunno if you want to do that. Easiest approach, however!)

Re: ubuntu + XP
Thanks alot senethior.
Though from 1 problem to the next... I have 2 problems now
1) at random times ubuntu just freezes and I have no choice but to restart...
2)I updated the pc (from the update manager) and updated the graphic card to i think it was 185(recommended) something like that...
Now whenever I restart my PC after the ubuntu loading logo my screen shows "NO SIGNAL" and shuts itself off..
Ive waited for like 10min and its still the same and the startup sound doesnt happen so i guess the problem isnt te screen...
btw: when restarting the PC there is this black background and white text...
well sometimes the letters mixup and there are some "graphic" flaws.. like just some lines drawn all over the screen for no reason... what can cause that to happen?
if it means anything my PC is wide open from front and left side.

Re: ubuntu + XP
White text is normal. Graphics going crazy isn't exactly. Seriously, it seems like your best answer is to reinstall fresh and change what you need to there, you have a ton of issues right now.

Re: ubuntu + XP
Well its the belion times I re-install ubuntu (3rd today!) and as you can see I can connect to the internet... Though in 4min or so my PC will get stuck again and Ill have to reboot.
I doubt its about the ubuntu... I think its more about the PC though I can't know for sure so I need a 2nd opinion...
And the problem can't be the CD as I got it in the mail from ubuntu...

Re: ubuntu + XP
When you first log in to Ubuntu, you may want to run /usr/bin/jockey-gtk so it will search for and install necessary drivers. I'm not sure exactly what is causing your issues, so right now, I'm just trying to troubleshoot the graphics things and hoping that they're all caused by lack of graphics drivers (doubtful, but possible). You may also want to head over to ubuntuforums.org and post your problem there; they have far more knowledge and a wider user base than us, and will at least know which things to ask you for, like logs.

Re: ubuntu + XP
Ubuntu freezing ain't that uncommon. My uncle is stuck with ubuntu 8.04 cause of that - any newer version and it freezes randomly. I haven't looked into it and I probably won't. Told him to install Debian and see if it persists - he doesn't seem to want to though. So yeah, how about using Debian instead? Ubuntu is a mess

Re: ubuntu + XP
It's also available under System>Administration>Hardware Drivers.
Debian is another distribution of Linux; it's what Ubuntu is based on.
