any linux pro around?

Somehow my server isn't allowing shell access...
I haven't paid for shell access, so this is just normal.
But I can execute shell commands using php. O.o
When I try to execute sshd i'm getting this:

$ sshd
sh: sshd: command not found

But when I try to login, it seems to work, but disconnects me after
filling in my pass.. -.-
Does anyone know if there's a way to run my own ssh server?
