I assume they take out everything that's not important. ...And I'll just pretend you're doing this legally somehow so I can answer your question. |

Probably lzma - but even that can't compress anything, it just increases the entropy as much as it can. You can use it on Linux systems by using the "lzma" command or by using 7zip which is available for most other operating systems as well. |

It's a bad idea to use lzma on big files. In ultra mode my dualcore only compresses about 400kb per second - so big files take ages ;( |

Use KGB archiver, it can compress 1 GB into 10 mb. dont believe me? try it, but heres the catch, it takes a loooooong time. Code: KGB Archiver is the compression tool with unbelievable high compression rate. It beats UHARC and 7zip!! KGB Archiver is the compression tool with unbelievable high compression rate. It surpasses even such efficient compression tool like 7zip and UHARC in terms of the abilities. KGB Archiver is an application created to allow you to compress and decompress files. Unfortunately although its powerful compression rate, it has high hardware requirements (I recommend processor with 1,5GHz clock and 256MB of RAM as an essential minimum). One of the advantages of KGB Archiver is also AES-256 encryption which is used to encrypt the archives. This is one of the strongest encryptions known for human. Note: Some antivirus and antispyware programs flag KGB Archiver as being infected/malware, although the application is perfectly safe and does not pose a threat to your system. This is called a 'false positive'. The term false positive is used when antivirus software wrongly classifies an innocuous ( inoffensive ) file as a virus. The incorrect detection may be due to heuristics or to an incorrect virus signature in a database. [Similar problems can occur with antitrojan or antispyware software.] Requirements: ยท NET Framework Code: http://rapidshare.com/files/262349440/KGB_Archiver.v6.rar

o.0, I'll have to test it out, I can't imagine how one would compress something to a hundredth of it's size. |

Uhh... Long time by whose standards? If you're running it on the mentioned 1.5gHz and 256MB of RAM computer mentioned, sure, I guess it can take a while. Let's see how fast it is on a 3.2gHz and 1024MB of RAM computer! |
