I was browsing the chinese war3 forums for a Sword Art Online RPG map and happened to chance upon one which is 32mb big. Having initially thought the map wouldn't be load-able inside war3, I quickly scanned the page and to my surprise, there was actually a patch that allows maps bigger than 8mb to be loaded. I downloaded it, patched my warcraft and tried it with the 32mb map, it worked. (As a Garena player, I am not sure if the patch would work for BNET players in the sense that BNET might reject such edits) Wow, honestly this is a pretty exciting discovery for me and the implications of not having a map size limit is amazing.
1. Infinite models (Throw in as many custom models as you want and make each unit, each building and each spell more unique)
2. Infinite triggers (Replace the entire interface... well TKoK is close)
These 2 basically add up to the ability of creating one of the most customised RPG maps out there, and be able to play it.
Well I am certain that this is definitely not something new, probably been out for a year or two already but there's definitely people who aren't aware of this and it's always good to share some interesting pieces of news eh. Do drop a reply and share your thoughts on this, whether it came as a surprise to you if it's your first time reading about it, or how it is already old news if you are already well aware of it. Lastly, I doubt the SAO rpg is the only map that is utilising this patch and would appreciate if anyone would care to share some others they are aware of.
