Post subject:  Whats your antivirus?

Hey guys I've been wondering, is there a antivirus thats not too strict nor too lose? I mean lets say it sees a program with a false positive it won't throw it away into it's virus vault or quarantine without your consent or restrict any access to it. I'm using Avast right now and it seems to be a good antivirus. Anyone else know a better one that could be free?

Unfortunately they all have false positives and I have yet to find one to allow various programs on my computer to do what I need them to do. ;-)

I have to "allow" one program every other day. I dont understand why I have to keep reminding my AV to leave it alone.

I use AVG

Do not use McAfee. There is no way to tell it to allow a program.

So if it gets a false positive, it's deleting that program whether you like it or not.

And yeah, every antivirus gets false positives. It sucks.

I just use Microsoft Security Essentials. Doesn't remind me to update, the only thing it scans automatically are new files you either downloaded or are unarchiving, (.rar, .zip, etc), allows you to permanently set locations or exact file names + locations where it won't scan, and seems to be surprisingly competent at detecting malware. The only thing that's annoying about it is that when it detects something that it thinks is "bad", there's no way to automatically ignore it, but have to put it in the "ignored files" list manually. But all in all, it's not bad.

lol wut? Why are you guys using such low anti-viruses?
For all I know, the 2 top AVs are either ESET Smart Security (that I use) or Kaspersky.
My opinion is that the people who made Kaspersky are real damn good, the best there is on this subject, they did some amazing things like cracking the flame virus (I don't think any one else has made it besides them)
But I had trouble getting it cracked, so I went to use ESET Smart Security and I recommend it to every one who needs an AV and download it to my friends in need. If it is deleting a file or program it will notify you before hand, unless it gets quartined and then you can get it out and add a folder to an exception so it won't do so again.

I just pirate AV but I thinks that its a nice circle... We get AV to get our PC protected, and we get a cracked AV for that... Seems legit ;)

Because it's not an annoying pile of garbage, unlike every other antivirus I've tried. ;)

Ever tried ESET Smart Security? (Not NOD32)

NOD32 kept crashing mine, and my mothers MS Office. Also NOD isway lower on ratngs than AVG. Some AV comparisons do not even include NOD which tells me it's below the top 10.

Kaspersky WAS great, but after a while I finally got tired of finding keys daily. When I moved to AVG, it found several viruses that kaspersky didn't.

I agree that NOD is crap, there is a reason for that, same reason AVG free is crap. Because they offer to sale you a better one.
I hated NOD, but ESET Smart Secuirity aint NOT. It is a better and more expansive (not for pirates ofc) AV.
As for Kaspersky, the AV wasn't the problem, you were talking about the crack. So you can't blame them for having a good protection over their software. If you were to be a legit customer and pay for the AV it would be working as needed ;)
