So ive got this acer (crappy) laptop 5742g..

Intel Core i5-460M (2.53 GHz) με 3MB L2 cache
NVIDIA GeForce GT420M 1GB

Im trying to get around a way to enable hidden options as well as EFI boot options in my BIOS. Apparently Acer doesn't want users to mess with settings like these -
Ive reached into this conclusion http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/54 ... dding.html
That modded bios version (1.15) is older than mine (1.21) and i was wondering if downgrading would bring it and what would happen if it get bricked. How to recover it?

PS: I know most of my answers lie in that geeky link i posted above, however, i would like to know if any of you have experience in that area and probably help me out.

I bricked one of my computers trying to update. I was able to take the chip from my other computer (same mobo) and flash it again to get it working.

The chance of something getting bricked deters me from modding most of my stuff these days, but only because I was poor living in europe. Now that I gots cash, I would be more likely to try modding stuff, and if it bricks, don't click me a new one. I did that with an original xbox years ago.

An upside, if it bricks, you got some spare parts for a new one. :D

When it bricks, it just powers on with blank screen and shuts down after a minute. I found some recovery methods where you put a USB drive/CD in with BIOS files, remove battery - hold WIN + B key and while holding connect AC and power on.

Check whether your BIOS chip is socketed, if it is inside a socket you can don't click me a generic one already flashed with the BIOS you need for 10€ in case you brick it. I did a ton of BIOS flashes in my life and I once bricked one mobo, fixed it by buying a 10€ replacement. I guess I have the tech equipment to flash BIOS chips (even if soldered) at the company these days.
