After uninstalling and reinstalling warcraft problem

Post by bluejays »

I uninstalled and reinstalled warcraft to input a new cd key that i got when i bought my new game so i wouldn't have to use my brother's anymore but when i finish reinstalling the map files have become unknown files types and will not show the .wcx (forzen throne) icon and the .wcm (rain of chaos) icon anymore. I find it less conevenient tha ti must open world editor first then find the map which causes a lot of the time fofr loading the default empty map =(.

Open a folder, and go to the Options menu (I think, maybe it's Tools or something. One to the left of Help), Folder Options. Change to the extensions tab or something, and just add the new extensions. Make a new one, .w3x, find WorldEditor.exe, make it run that. Do the same for .w3m and .w3n.
You can also just doubleclick on the map, and it should pop up a list of what you want to open it with. Choose World Editor (or browse to it if it isn't already in the list) and select the "Always open files of this type with this application" or similarly titled checkbox. Then hit OK. It will open the map in WE, and will associate that extension with World Editor. If the icon isn't right, you can find it, I think it's in war3.exe. I just did this recently, but I forget exactly how, so... Hopefully, these instructions will be sufficient.

Sorry to bring a ...dead topic alive, but you realize that you could have moved the maps folder, along with other folders that have stuff you needed, to a secure location while downloading.
I had to reinstall recently, because war3.mpq decided to leave me randomly after working on the map I'm working on.
What now?
Yea, that's right, I own you.

Yea, try and beat me now.

That wouldn't have worked, because Windows still wouldn't have had the extensions registered. There wasn't a problem with the maps; Windows just didn't have a default action for them.
