Microsoft will send new ones, though.
Just send it to them, and they will send.
(My friend called and went off on them,
for the inconvenience, they gave him like a $50
gift card for Xbox games made by certain producers,
[ex. Bungie and Midway games, etc.] and a new Xbox,
they paid for the shipping and handling, and some other stuff,
like a headset, etc.)

My suggestion: Call and complain.

If you're lucky, and a good arguer, you should have no problems
getting them to pay for shipping and handling, and maybe some
extra stuff for the inconvenience.

To answer your questions: If you send it back, it won't cost anything
to get the new Xbox, however, you may have to pay the shipping and handling cost.

Yeah, they really should have fixed that particular defect before releasing their console. Prior to the Xbox red ring o death I've never had a hardware problem with a console. That being said, PS3 = win Final Fantasy Versus 13 > all Xbox games? I do believe so
