Vent servers with lots of slots cost money, and a free server on a website with adsense goes against their conditions. Mumble is 100% free.

It's even FOSS, you can install it on your router, your mobile phone or your psp. The website offers packages for Windows, Linux and MacOS, but besides it should run everywhere where Qt runs.

I never had any sound problems with Mumble.
On Linux it might be a problem with ALSA...
On Windows - no idea -.-

I'm on Windows, and my sound card and sound work on everything else, but Mumble is like Mute or smth because I don't even hear the notifications or text speech option.

I just sold my old pc and the buyer wanted to use the Vista it came with. So I installed it - which took ages - and then I tried to do windows updates. It downloaded a new updater or something, then it asked me to reboot, which I did. After rebooting it showed me an "unknown error" with a random number. After like 15 minutes I found out the clock wasn't set correct - I fixed it and guess what?? - Windows update worked! Why does it tell me "Unknown error" if it wants me to set the fricking time? Why can't it do that on it's own? And all the time "Explorer.exe isn't reacting" blah blah semi-freezes for 10 seconds.
And why does it use up 12gb without updates? (With probably 15gb) Ubuntu takes less than 2gb and comes with a whole office and imaging suite.

I am so glad I don't use that Microsoft crap :D

Try to confirm that your input/output device settings are correct. That's the most likely cause.
