IP ban probably. But if you get IP banned enough, they ban your CD key.
It also depends what you're using. They seem to really dislike Ghost++, so they ban CD keys used by Ghost bots.

I'm pretty sure Ip bans can be longer than that.

Also, back on topic, you can't host a game on battle.net through LAN and have friends join through LAN. (Listchecker)
I haven't actually tested it, but I don't think it would be possible for the fact that you're hosting the game on battle.net.
This means that you _HAVE_ to use a valid key in order to host the games, because you're hosting the game on battle.net.
That means you can have your key banned if they figure they just want to take their ban hammer to you.

even though this post is old and dead... i still want to tell it to everyone who reads this...
games hosted by listchecker can be published on battlenet and mated can join over bnet AND lan
this is tested and works just great..

just as hint to those who havent found out and read this and are disappointed cuz of this..
also it works with hamachi
listchecker + hamachi = opness
cuz you can play with ppl who havent got their own cd key AND also ppl on bnet at the same time
