The Xbox is COMPLETELY useless now.
Microsoft will send new ones, though.
Just send it to them, and they will send.
(My friend called and went off on them,
for the inconvenience, they gave him like a $50
gift card for Xbox games made by certain producers,
[ex. Bungie and Midway games, etc.] and a new Xbox,
they paid for the shipping and handling, and some other stuff,
like a headset, etc.)

Wow friendly from them I wish I would had that much luck when my Psp mirror got broken inside because of one stupid guy of my class -.-
I dont know how much it costs to repair it but I think it will cost as much as the Psp...... -.-

My suggestion: Call and complain.

If you're lucky, and a good arguer, you should have no problems
getting them to pay for shipping and handling, and maybe some
extra stuff for the inconvenience.

To answer your questions: If you send it back, it won't cost anything
to get the new Xbox, however, you may have to pay the shipping and handling cost.

They give you all that because they don't want users to leave the XBox "circle", example:

If your XBox got ****'ed up by some stupid idiot ( example of the PSP guy ), they just won't give a damn, 'cuz it isn't their problem that your XBox got ruined...

Yeah, they really should have fixed that particular defect before releasing their console. Prior to the Xbox red ring o death I've never had a hardware problem with a console. That being said, PS3 = win Final Fantasy Versus 13 > all Xbox games? I do believe so

I've had a few, but they were caused by misuse, and when the problems were caused by the natural aging factor, the guarantee expired >_>
So yea, nowadays, electronics are like time bombs, ready to **** up when the guarantee expires
